Volunteering
• President - Engineers Without Borders [2012] After no active committee, I restarted the society by myself, set up a committee of 7, and had about 50 active members within two months.
• Volunteer helper at the 35th WEDC International Conference [6th-8th July 2011] at Loughborough University for selected sessions, and was a delegate/participant in the remaining paper sessions and discussions.
• RedR UK ‘So you think you want to be a relief worker?’ Workshop [16th July 2011].
• Achieved the Loughborough Employability Award [2010-2012] which enabled me to gain a range of employability skills through work experience, voluntary and other activities.
• Student2Student [2011-2012] Student run email service offering emotional support or advice on any issue. I completed the 6 week training, and then was part of the service, responding to emails.
• Student Union volunteering [2011-2012]; 5 events ranging from gardening at a school, to helping out at the local community centre.
• Engineers Without Borders UK National Conference 2012 [28th-29th Jan 2012] at Birmingham University.
• Engineers Without Borders Research Conference 2012 [26th March] at University College London.
• Insight into Management Course [19th-21st March 2012] at Loughborough University.
Skills
• I find it intellectually stimulating and fun to find solutions to problems, and my course provides many opportunities to do this.
• I have achieved 67.2% and 63.4% in my first two years, which shows I’m hard working.
• I’m pro-active as I approached WEDC myself to ask them if I could take part in the conference, set up the EWB branch myself, etc (see volunteering).
• I actively take part in a wide range of university societies, which also shows I have a great desire to learn.
• For 4 years I have done Kickboxing/Karate and to do this I have been disciplined.
• As a result of doing group teamwork projects/coursework’s (15 in total) over the last 2 years, I am comfortable in working in groups, and I definitely take an active vocal role in a group. This has improved my leadership and people skills.
• I feel my purpose is to help people who are unfairly disadvantaged, and this compassion encourages me to live this way (see volunteering).
• I have a clean driving licence.

Interests
• WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Eventually I would like to work in the aid/development sector, more specifically in water and sanitation and hygiene in developing countries.
• Inner Work [2007-current] Learning about thoughts and emotions and how to overcome internal limitations, and generally improving my emotional intelligence.

Technical
Psychology
Economics
So true, being a student engineer I can see that it's definitely weighted towards technical. I am thinking about how this relates to contributing to solving the water, sanitation and hygiene challenge in the world, by introducing commerce into developing countries, instead of just installing hand pumps there and leaving.
Technical - Teach the local community how to build/sell/maintain the [insert technical solution]
Psychology - Give them reasons for doing this - money, HEALTH,
Economics - Creating a economy in the community so it lasts and grows for the long term
