About Me

Laurea in Aesthetics (Milano); M.A. in Comparative Literature (U.S.A.); Laurea in Art History (Milano). I've been teaching Italian to American college students, in the U.S. and in Study Abroad Programs in Italy, since 1990. After discovering TED, about three years ago, I have become more and more passionate about translations, and I have slowly turned it into my new profession. My very first publication came out in July 2012, and it is the Italian translation of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Captain Paul Watson's book "Ocean Warrior: La mia battaglia contro lo sterminio illegale degli oceani" (Ugo Mursia Editore), which reflects my love for the oceans and for the protection of all its species. I am in the process of publishing the translation of another of Captain Watson's books, "Seal Wars", this one about the cruelty of the Canadian seal hunt. In addition, I am working on English to Italian translations of publications of Early Christian Iconography, transcriptions and English translations of XVI century Venetian ambassadors reports on the Turkish Empire, and a book on the Renaissance Sforza family … and more, like volunteer work for some non-profit human rights organizations. But the important thing is all of this has been made possible thanks to TED!!! You give, and you receive; it’s karma. THANK YOU TED!!!!!!!

A comment on Talk: Brian Greene: Is our universe the only universe?

May 7 2012: Think of the philosophical implications of a theory like this. How many great minds were tortured and burned at the stake throughout the centuries for suggesting something not even remotely as "subversive" as this sounds ... Giordano Bruno is the very first one who comes to mind.
  • A reply on Conversation: Showing experiments on live animals to young kids, regardless of what kind of animal, can be considered part of an educational program?

A reply on Talk: Brian Greene: Is our universe the only universe?

Apr 23 2012: ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha, no, I'm not his protecting wife, I don't know him from Adam!!!!!! Do you know what I think? I think I missed all of the stuff you noticed because I was concentrating on understanding his talk, and I was glad he was directing it also to morons like me, whose brains somehow refuse to let in that kind of information.... I'll watch it again and try to notice it more, still I'm somehow appreciative of this preaching / nagging attitude. I have a hard time attributing it to arrogance, honestly, I found it a more of way to guide the listener through his mind process. I mean, think about it, no time or chance to screw up in 19 minutes on stage, maybe he was pacing himself... I might be wrong, but it did help me out. In fact, I hope I can translate it in Italian when it becomes available.

A reply on Talk: Brian Greene: Is our universe the only universe?

Apr 23 2012: I attributed this to his excitement, mixed with some kind of caution, as he has to make sure everybody understands the concepts he is trying to convey, definitely very complex stuff. I somehow appreciated his "nagging" because it helped me through the process of of his ideas. Overdoing and overclarifying helps people like me, who know nothing about these theories but find it really fascinating ... Anyway, definitely a great talk.
  • A comment on Conversation: Would you translate (or spread) a TED talk if you didn't agree with it's topic or the speaker's point of view?

Apr 22 2012: In a contest like TED's, where I am free to choose the talks I want to translate, then I would simply decide not to contribute to spreading ideas I am not in agreement with, and let somebody else work on the translation. Then, if I HAD to translate something I don't agree with, I would certainly try to remain as objective as possible, although, I'm afraid, if your heart is not into it, you're not going to do as good as a job.

A reply on Talk: Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone?

Apr 3 2012: And I guess that's where the problem is. The most natural option would be the third ... the fact that it's not available is quite concerning!!!
  • A reply on Talk: Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone?

Apr 3 2012: How about the third option of a real human being that talks to me and listens to me, face to face?

A reply on Conversation: Showing experiments on live animals to young kids, regardless of what kind of animal, can be considered part of an educational program?

Mar 13 2012: Couldn't agree more with yours and Don Walsh comments. Are kids supposed to enjoy the demonstration because it was "just" a cockroach? I guess they showed a much deeper sensibility than the organizers and the performer of this "lesson", and I hope they will not lose it growing up. I don't consider this kind of approach educational by any means. Respect for any living creature on our planet is the first lesson children should be taught, and I'm thinking TED should know better.
