everything
playing guitar, observing people, listening
When I was in Luang Nam Tha, Laos, I joined a two day kayaking trip which involved an overnight stay at one of the local villages.
We arrived at the village exhausted and bedraggled, surrounded by numerous curious eyes. Later a group of kids gathered around, helped us make the fire and then sat there, watched us doing whatever we were doing and murmuring in their local dialect. We quickly become friends though few words had been spoken. Later they asked me to sing a song. So I did, and asked them to sing one in return. I was totally struck from the moment they began until the end. It was quite long yet very beautiful, moving, like an ancient Chinese love story. I was surprised that such young kids could sing so well, I could feel the emotion flow in the air. Music has always been such a great bridge between different culture and different language.
Sometimes interaction can be achieved so easily even without the understanding of each other's language, yet is can be so profound.
