A reply on Conversation: Are these words necessary ?
Couldn't agree more.
Fight against the thing, not the word for it. :)
A comment on Conversation: The automovile is furious and wild. The bike is slow, nice and calm. More healthy and all we need is a good breakfast to start in a bike.
Greetings from a fellow biker from Münster, Germany's bicycle capital. :)

"Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it."
I can't help but think of these lines -and shudder- whenever I hear people talking about "destroying" words, as Syme would put it...
A comment on Conversation: Without spending money, how can I make the biggest impact on my community with 15 minutes/day?
Joy is contagious. :)
A comment on Conversation: killing one person to save two people, is it ok?
But then, it's a very slipery slope. Once you've taken the step "killing is ok if you can save more than you kill", "killing is ok if you can save someone more than you kill" is not so far away anymore.
So no, trying to rationalize / excuse killing should remain wrong.
(@Aaron: The trolley case is a fascinating question btw. I sincerely don't know what I would do...)
A comment on Conversation: Have you ever wondered...? Questions you asked when you were a child
Why is this beautiful?
Why do some people enjoy beeing mean? (Still haven't cracked that one)
A reply on Conversation: Do you ever feel pressured, whether explicitly or implicitly, to pick up another language?
Your 2 sentences above sound *very much* like online translator gibberish to my French ears... =)
