A comment on Talk: Gustavo Dudamel leads El Sistema's top youth orchestra
Let's have a standing ovation for the Humanities, practically forgotten in the wonderful old U.S of A. Look at how this music program has provided thousands of kids with an identity, a purpose, a way to find their talents, a way to learn discipline, goals, a way to mature through the transcendence of music, a way to find and develop and articulate the passions they feel. In my experience studying classical piano seriously from age 5 to 15, which died off at 16 because there was no place for it in my high school world, I wish we had El Sistema because I would have taken that path, no question. I would love to see that happen in this country, for our children. Bravo Venezuela!
