Writing stories.
My TED story is about the power of "yes".
In Sept 2011, my then girlfriend suggested I enter Dance Your PhD. I said yes and won a trip to TEDxBrussels. Returning to Perth, the difference in quality between my hometown's TEDx and that of Brussels was obvious. I was asked to lead a reboot of TEDxPerth, so I said yes. Foremost in my mind was that TEDxPerth needed to be high-profile, prestigious and celebrate the best of Perth. Attendees should leave inspired. Not only does a TEDx event affect perceptions of the TED brand; it also alters perceptions about its city. A TEDx event, in my view, must be great.
On December 8, 2012, we hosted Perth's first large-scale TEDx event and it was a huge success. The audience reaction was massively positive - as though people relished this unapologetic celebration of the intellectual culture and artistic vibrancy of the city. It was an idea whose time had come.
In the end, my TED story about answering the call, saying yes and following through.
