About Me

Self-Styled [perhaps] Internet Guru since 1996 when we set up Midnet and Selfgrow. We had Wireless Broadband set up within a 20 mile radius. We had (and still do) a Silicon Graphics Work Station and three web servers and our own Linux DNS servers. we developed one of the first virtual reality web sites estimated as being 2 km deep (virtually) . Our Graphics were unsurpassed. Then lack of funding and the dot com crash, we folded in 2005

2009 We Are Back and We Are The Internet! Not An Idle boast. google pjfbncyl see how many hits you get. It was set up in June 2009 see where we are in six months...You Decide......2010 is mine. So wrote I.

Then I got cancer and lost everything; got the all clear in Apr 2012 started it all again in December. after regaining my health. Domain registrar and hosting.

I have 3 major projects on the go:

1. A briefing on Cyberculture. Looking at what is a cyberculture, using Second Life (dot com) as an example. The web version including a PDF can be found at cybercommunity.biz

2. Personal Domains is a project I have been working off and on for years. Its aim is to get everyone on the Internet an address. A Personal Domain. Details can be found at PersonalDomains.net

3. Avatar Creations. We, my partner and I, found a niche market to for those needing a professional looking avatar. This may be for teaching or business purposes. Avatar Creations.net

My TED Story

Blue Mars Tweet got me to : Pranav Mistry http://www.blendernation.com/sixth-sense-technology/ I copied the video, had to edit it as it was 13 minutes (stupid YouTube only allows 10 DUH!) Distributed it as my mind was innervated (what a nice word). I called the Video the most important of 2009. Hi TED. Hi Rena , Hi Ruth Hi Ann

A comment on Talk: John McWhorter: Txtng is killing language. JK!!!

Apr 22 2013: I am a member of a cybercommunity (second life) and we chat both one to one and in a common group. at the same time. I work as a host in a blues club facilitating conversation . We have avatars to represent ourselves. We use text shorthand; lol, omg, wtf, np etc. and we use short concise sentences. However a newcomer to the "chat room" would have no trouble following the conversation. We type speech. .( I wrote a briefing on our cybercommunity (cybercommunity.biz ) which illustrates this. )

Apr 4 2013: fyi Ernest Moniz, who has directed the MIT Energy Initiative since it was established in 2006, has earned at least $75,000 since 2008 advising Riverstone Equity Holdings LP, which according to government filings has $2.5 billion invested in a variety of fossil fuel production and storage companies in the United States and abroad. Petroleum Companies Rule. Awesome science tho.
  • A comment on Conversation: Do the 3D movies enhance or kill imagination?

Mar 10 2013: Last year I joined the 3D immersive cybercommunity of second life. I have an avatar whom (?) I can dress appropriately for a traditional ball to a grunge concert to a tête-à-tête with a friend at home. I create the avatar and in some cases I have created the surroundings in which "he" interacts. My imagination knows no bounds even down to the slightest mannerism. I strut on a 3D stage surrounded by my peers. I make movies of my experiences http://personaldomains.net/video/dramalibre/ I try and capture the visceral moment of when, while dancing with a friend surrounded by like minded friends THAT song is played by the DJ. I had lots of visceral moments while watching the movie Avatar in 3D. It took me out of myself and my draw dropped. Is this significantly different from Bogarts "We will always have Paris" made meaningful because I have said it myself, appropriately. Visual technology has come far from the screaming of the patrons viweing their first taste of a train rushing towards them in that first moving picture. I embrace the new technology and want more. Acting in your own 3D movie provides me with content I have created. I provide the form.If you want a yardstick let it be FUN!

A comment on Conversation: What is it to be Fearless ?

Mar 5 2013: Indeed. Growing up in England in the 50s and 60s as a working class grammar school boy asking for help was considered "bad form" . In class admitting ignorance was a sign of weakness so you shut up and muddled through. Often if you did you were ridiculed both by teacher and pupils. i was scared to ask for help. This carries through to adult life. It appears to me that this "not asking" is endemic in western society, at least. How can we change? By watching the videos and then DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT! I now have a "Donate" buttons on my activist site. http://GodKnows.info thank you
  • A comment on Conversation: Robots vs Avatars : Social interaction can be better facilitated through a robot or through an avatar?

Feb 3 2013: In conclusion what I would like to see is the creation of an inter world avatar that could be used anywhere in cyberspace. I would have a universal avatar that would remain outwardly the same, with a cyberidentity [see htttp://cyberidentity.biz]. . There is no reason not to have a quite sophisticated auto responder included when not online. The final step in the process would be to create a robot from the avatar. Is it the realm of science fiction to see my personality my engram on my physical death to be uploaded into my avatar? Given the power of networks [see RSAnimate The Power of Networks and the human genome project ] and the processing power of the latest chips, this may not be so far fetched. The final frontier is not that of space, but that of death.

    Thank you for your time.

    P.S. I'll be back.

Jan 17 2013: I have used a lot of these thoughts to create a 2013 briefing on Cyberculture at http://cybercommunity.biz It explains avatars as well as defining culture. It will be of interest.

A comment on Talk: Don Levy: A cinematic journey through visual effects

Jan 5 2013: This is not just the provision of Hollywood. With my avatar I created a 2d stage that had the effect of seeming 3d. By positioning the avatar at a certain point and using animated dance the avatar moved in and out of the 2d environment. The stage was silver with a black backdrop; the avatar Dude Starship a 3d object was also wearing black. Two elements position and color created the 3D illusion. Examples on the blog at DudeStarship dot com on the cyberdude page. Anyone can do this.
  • A comment on Talk: Amber Case: We are all cyborgs now

Jan 4 2013: The online global cyberculture of secondlife provides a fantastic medium of social interaction within distinct spacial interest cybercommunities. (see onlybrackets.hubpages.com for more detail on cyberculture / cybercommunities. ) Interaction takes place within a 3D virtual space either your own home or in a public area such as a club, perhaps playing blues music with a live dj.. Connections are made via an avatar , modelled and dressed by the user, as your online second self using chat (typing) or voice. Public areas have local chat but private Instant global messaging occurs between those you have designated as friends. When not online these messages can be received as email. The avatar is animated by chosing a variety of movements and can join with another avatar in various activities such as dance. My avatar in secondlife is my second self.
