Jul 28 2011: A few I keep up with:
http://www.eurekalert.org/pubnews.php (just press releases but lots of info)
http://spacecollective.org/ (kind of "Artsie" but good thinkers, nice people)
http://www.acceler8or.com/ (a new site of "transhumanist" news)
I also always keep an eye on the people I feel are out there changing the world such as Craig Venter ( http://www.jcvi.org/ ) Drexler, ect...
Mar 14 2010: excess population is going to be a minor challenge. As the knowledge needed to achieve these goals grows so will other technologies. For example, with better photovoltaic we get virtually unlimited energy. What the first thing we do with unlimited (electric) power is desalinate sea water and irrigate the desert. Now, we have a vast new land mass that is habitable by people. That is only one example of how co-evolving technology will enhance the capacity of the earth.
Just to quiet the skeptics , the Earth is a small closed system. The water leaving the ocean to grow the desert ends up back in the ocean.
