Mar 28 2012: That calculation you did, if you look at it another way, could sustain a power spike equivalent to 4800 households for an hour. The issue which mr. Sodoway speaks of, early in the talk, is that all electricity must be generated at the same rate it is consumed, and thus must constantly be able to deliver peak demand, or cause problems. A large enough battery creates a buffer, and buffers are generally a good thing.
That other thing, about service life, makes me wonder... If the maintenance costs were a big plus too, wouldn't he have mentioned that?
