About Me

I graduated in journalism at a prestigiuos Universty (Pontificia Universidade Católica - located in Porto Alegre (RS) Brazil), 23 years ago and I have been studying English since before I graduated. Unsatisfied with the English courses I took, long years ago, which priorized grammar instead of the communicative aspect of the language, I began study by myself, mostly reading books and listening tapes. I was (and still I am), more concerned with the understanding of the language than with the rules of the grammar, in spite their importance for a good language. Through EnglishCentral.com, which provides excelents videos to ESL students I came to TED and saw the opportunity to keep improving my English and at same time be usefull doing a volunteer work translating TED videos to Brazilian Portuguese, my first language. I have had some experiences ocasionally, tranalating articles and papers for pos-graduated students. It is relatively simple, at least the experiences I had., translate English to Portuguese. On the other end, I have also translated sometimes, papers from Portuguese to English, a much more demanding task.

    Jun 17 2011: While common people are dying in wars, big entrepreneurs and politicians are getting richer. War is always, and I think it always be a huge opportunity to make profit. Guns and ammunition have to be bought to make a war, and this is a very interesting market. Do you want to stop a war, ou avoid someone to began one, just don't allow him to have access to gun.
    Let's find out who is selling guns and war artefacts to the nations who are in war and stop them to make these genocide business. This one way, practical way, to minimize these conflicts who are responsible for thousands of deaths around the world while at same time the "lords of wars", I am meaning the death traders become richer.
