Speaking regularly at venues as diverse as conferences for UN Habitat and the Organization of American States to more comfortably on street corners across slums, barrios and favelas around the world, Gavin has been hurtling between worlds for over a decade. A member of Toronto Mayor Miller’s community safety secretariat (2006-2010) and a co-founder of the Grassroots Youth Collaborative (GYC) and the South Etobicoke Youth Assembly (SEYA) – in 2009 Gavin was asked to accompany Governor General Michaelle Jean on state visits to Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica – touring community projects and sharing intimate meals with world leaders grappling with the social issues of the day.
Both on the frontlines of community organizing across the hemisphere and in the backrooms with the political elite, Gavin’s life experiences help inform the stories he tells.
