  • A comment on Conversation: Making our lives and lifestyles more humane through being more in-tuned with our feelings & natural heritage - Nurture our bond with nature

    Mar 19 2011: For me -
    Slowing down, way down
Dropping into my body and getting out of being only in my head - focusing on the sensate that is happening very internaly and also with the 5 senses.
Reminding myself and reflecting on the truth that all sentient beings want security and happiness - in this aspect no matter how different we are, we are the same, beings seeking these things - the Dalai Lama speaks to this often.

Mar 19 2011: Matt - Some men hate women when they are/were only considered chattel. Some men hate women when they have equal rights. Some people will find any reason to hate because they are fearful or damaged in some way.

A reply on Talk: Elizabeth Lindsey: Curating humanity's heritage

Mar 17 2011: It is not only knowledge that these elders possess, it is wisdom. Wisdom is understanding the best application of knowledge and therefore is more "practical" and much more life-serving than knowledge alone.

For example, how much damage would never have been done if we would have truly understood the wisdom of all things being interconnected and interdependent as many cultures and elders comprehend/ed?

A reply on Talk: Brené Brown: The power of vulnerability

Dec 31 2010: Dear Craig, Thank you. I'm amazed and touched by your honesty and desire to no longer be a "hostage" to what holds you back; to pose questions so openly you will help many. You might want to consider that your awareness is already very high to be observing yourself and even asking what you do, I hope you can truly appreciate the beauty, depth of "the one who is seeking" inside.

As I reflect on your question what comes is that learning about true compassion, for myself and others, along with also learning how to slow down, become present and in the moment are key for me to respond less "reflexively" and from a place that is more innate and true - these two things also seem to foster one another. When I practice these, there's less "right or wrong" inside myself, another or the world. I see with eyes that realize we are (for the most part) doing the best we can for as much as we have learned so far and also see such amazing wisdom and love resides in all of us yet to be realized

Dec 30 2010: This recent TED talk on Vulnerability seems to dovetail Mr. Porter's as well as a message for us all.

A reply on Talk: Tony Porter: A call to men

Dec 30 2010: If I understand your question now - "How do we know we've left the box?" I think it's a great one, for us as individuals and as a society. How do we know we've left certain things behind or just think we have? There's a Shakespearean line that says something like "He mistaketh the seeing of his chains for the breaking of them."

As an individual, perhaps humility and curiosity are the key. Even though I am a woman I can feel the pressure in our society to emulate a few of the "man box" characteristics described. A simple thing could be to ask those around us if they feel we are living out of the "man box" or any "box". If we're sincere, we have to keep an inquiry and self-reflection happening to make sure we're not influenced by what considered the "norm" if it's not healthy . Also, seeing learning, changing, growing as a life-long process. Getting education, support and feedback from others seems vital. • A reply on Talk: Birke Baehr: What's wrong with our food system

Dec 30 2010: I appreciate you are someone who took the time to read and consider that report - I agree, it is compelling. In a following discussion, additional similar studies are offered as well.

Below I reposted some articles re. GMO/GEOs and health. To be clear, I am not saying there is enough proof on either side of the debate. It saddens, shocks and concerns me that something was allowed into the food system without extensive long-term research but research in general actually is rather scarce for something so vital - our food.
