A comment on Conversation: If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

A reply on Talk: Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story

Oct 13 2009: with all due respect, you seem to apply the evils of the 'single story' again to only those whose opinion you don't share. what about the demonisation of intellectuals by creationists, labelling of supporters of the president as 'studpid' by tea party activists and the hatred of conservatives against liberals?
i'm against 'single stories' of all kinds but you seem to like them if they are in your favour.

A comment on Talk: Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight

Oct 13 2009: While appreciating Mrs. Taylor's experience as a rare first-hand-insight into how the brain works, I believe she had a kind of manic experience. Her very emotional style of speech hints at this.
I do believe we are all connected and divisions we draw between ourselves and others are pure imagination because we feel safer that way, albeit a lot lonier. Science is far away from understanding reality. You cannot explain life with left-brain-'logic', least of all with words.
I am, however, sceptical as soon as I hear expressions like "go out and tell others", hold speeches to change the world etc.
I believe that the real "truth" is always an experience of silence and calmness, like the smiling buddha. Can you imagine Buddha going out and holding emotional speeches about his spiritual experiences? Frankly, I can't.
I also strongly disapprove of drugs as an artificial way of "gaining insights". If you are ready to experience "more", it will come naturally. Meditate. It's the sanest way.
