A reply on Talk: Dan Dennett: Dangerous memes

Dec 1 2010: I believe most of the memes we have are spread unintentionally. As I watch my and other peoples' kids grow, it is significant that raising up and education happens most when not intended. Children learn most from what they see and experience, not from what they're being told to remember. And they learn not only "ideas". They unwillingly copy attitudes and schemes of behaviour - sometimes to the great surprise of those who have unintentionally passed them on. It happens already before they can speak and fully comprehend spoken language. A child can well be generous or greedy long before they are explained or understand what the words "generousness" or "greediness" mean. And it happens without the parent knowing they're passing on either one.
