About Nicolas

Born and raised in Auvergne, France. My family is from Brittany (France), Spain and North Africa. The human rights violations some of them have endured and witnessed have made me acutely aware of the fragility of peace and democracy at an early age, which has led me to the study of law and diplomacy. Over the past few years, I have worked in that field in Canada, the United States, France, Switzerland, Estonia and the Netherlands. I am currently teaching European Union Law and French Law at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Areas of Expertise

International law, Human Rights Law, Humanitarian Law, Cyber Law and Security, Geopolitics, Public Affairs

An idea worth spreading

"Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win", Stephen King. In my view, monsters and ghosts stand for everything we fear in life. If we don't question our fear and realize it is only in our head, they may well end up leaving us defeated. I strive to show more courage everyday. An intelligent and courageous heart is all we need to get through life.

I'm passionate about

The groundedness, connection and truthfulness that acting has brought into my life (former student at the Mulholland Film Academy in Amsterdam). The clarity and peace that meditation has taught me

Talk to me about

Yourself and anything that inspires or concerns you, acting and film, meditation, languages, world politics, cultural diversity, religion, gender identity, space and cyber, justice, literature

People don't know I'm good at

knowing if they tell the truth or not

My TED story

My TED story started with Jill Bolte Taylor's talk on choosing holistic right brain perception of reality over individualistic left brain. It continued with the discovery of Ken Robinson on education, Elizabeth Gilbert on creativity and many others that have inspired me to keep on moving forward. I decided to translate for in 2009 and got involved with Jim Stolze to assist in the first TEDx Amsterdam that took place in 2009.
