My TED story

I joined the TED translator team in 2010. In these years, I have done mostly English-to-Romanian translations, but also a direct one from Japanese into Romanian and one from Romanian into English, which I first transcribed.

I am not a professional translator. I learned things while doing them. As such, I am grateful to some of my reviewers, notably including Ariana Bleau Lugo, who by their corrections taught me how to make better translations.

Jill Shargaa: Please, please, people. Let's put the 'awe' back in 'awesome'
The talk was awesome (...), but I'm not sure what the message is. If Jill Shargaa is attempting---as the title seems to suggest---to change the word "awesome" back to its original meaning, she has certainly already failed. Words change their meanings no matter how much we try to stop it, and that's just a fact of life. Almost all words we use today used to have different meanings in older stages of the language (of any language). And I say "almost all" and not "all" only to account for the tiny fraction of words that are so new that they still haven't had enough time to go through semantic shift.
