Oct 5 2010: I'm wondering why China can't promote condoms countrywide to control population, regardless of whether it is practical in China. First, there isn't a religion so strong, like Buddhism in Thailand that can guide the whole people; second, the absolute power of Communist Party will never tolerant one person to be so influential to mobilize the whole country; third, i don't know why but it seems that sex is still not a proper topic in China, most people feel embarrassed talking about it. It has something to do with the communist moral values back in 1950s, 60s, and 70s, even deeper rooted from the neo-Confucianism, which stress chastity on woman, that dates all the way back to Song dynasty.
