More About Me

An idea worth spreading

Creativity, Empathy and Curiosity are the most important human characteristics - if our schools focused on developing these 3 traits instead of putting all the effort on making kids pass standardised tests, our world would become much friendlier and more productive.

Everything

People don't know that I'm good at

making them laugh

Sep 28 2011: Hello, also I have very recently been speaking to a friend about their project, which I have discovered is identical to my dream of the Fix The World research project, so I'm going to help him make it happen and blend my dream into his - it's called the Olan Trust:

    Sep 25 2011: :D
My colleague/best friend went to TEDx London and made some pretty good contacts - the theme was Education Revolution. He met the woman who organised the whole event and she will be able to help us link up with big people. We've also got some pretty good contacts within the education world - a couple of educationists and youth organisations.
But we're always looking out for more people to help us or join with. We are desperate to find the perfect person to help us build a web system - if you know anyone who is a mega ambitious genius web developer/coder please send them this email and say they need to poke us:

  • A comment on Conversation: What are a few things your country could learn from other countries?

Sep 24 2011: I don't think it is particularly odd, because it will be a worthwhile investment if they expect to get stronger trade relations for a relatively tiny amount of money (for a whole country). Maybe? That's my guess.
  • A reply on Conversation: What are a few things your country could learn from other countries?

Sep 24 2011: That's interesting but you've twisted the fact from the article: "The program provides up to $15 million a year to help Latin American countries fight and prevent crime". That doesn't mean Canada pay for Costa Rica's police, it means Canada will give them a few $million to help them out and so they can reassure tourists that there is Canadian approved policing.
It's really not that un believable when it coincides with a bunch of trade negotiations between the two countries. From the same article: "Through today's commitments, we are helping Costa Rica to become a safer place for its citizens and for travellers and businesses from abroad, thereby protecting our interests in the region and ultimately at home."
  • A reply on Conversation: âWhat view of religion might advance humankindâs psychological maturity?â

    Sep 23 2011: Cheers :)
I don't think heartfelt concern is relevant to all religions, although I would have perhaps replaced it with compassionate connection, but my definition of religion would be more like:
A community of people banded together by a shared set of beliefs based on the assumption of the presence of a supernatural power.
I think this, to me, is more accurate than many dictionary definitions, which miss the point of community.

Sep 23 2011: I think a lot of countries could learn a lot from Costa Rica.
They dissolved their army in 1949.
Around 95% of all their energy comes from renewable sources.
Their life expectancy is 77, yet their GDP is only $11,500 (compared to USA's 78 @ $48,600) and according to the Happy Planet Index, they are the most happy country on earth (8.5 life satisfaction compared with USA's 7.8)

A comment on Conversation: Do young people have a valid role to play in national and international politics?

Sep 23 2011: Young people need a voice - they have an essential perspective on life that many adults have been educated out of.
My project is about getting young people to shape theirs schools - primary and secondary. By getting young people involved in decision making, we give them responsibility, which stops them just being passengers and turns them into active thinkers who learn how to change their own lives and the world around them. If this sounds like something vaguely interesting, check out this temporary site:

There will be a proper pitch website here in a couple of months, so please bookmark this if you're interested and come back to it :)

A comment on Conversation: why is islam grossly misunderstood??

Sep 23 2011: Thanks Thomas, that was helpful and I agree with you - that makes sense.

Krizstian - I did care, because I was interested in your comment, so I respect Thomas for responding to my curiosity.
I also have respect for your opinions, but I would respect you more if you didn't say things like "you are not worthy." There's nothing to be gained by belittling other human beings. If there was anything worth learning from the TED community, it would be that we should be trying to help each learn new things and understand the world more, instead of cutting conversations short with ego trumpeting.
    Thanks.
  • A reply on Conversation: âWhat view of religion might advance humankindâs psychological maturity?â

Sep 22 2011: Religion is not just theories of the world; religion also comprises of codes of ethics to guide people on how they should live their lives. But mostly yes these ethics are based on world theories that don't often stand up to test.
