I was born and educated in Adelaide, Australia and came to the UK following graduating as a mechanical engineer. I worked briefly in the aerospace industry before doing a PhD in Greenwich in assocaition with British Coal. Following this, I worked for several years in Western Australia developing simulation and data systems for heavy haul railways and open cut mining machinery. I returned to the UK to work in an engineering consultancy before taking up a development role at McLaren Electronic Systems, a developer and manufacturer of control and data systems for Formula One, Indy Racing League, World Rally Car, Le Mans and other professional motor racing catagories. I became Operations Director in 1997 and Managing Director in 2003.
