Brian is President of Aldare Resources, an advisory practice providing governance, consulting, and commercial mediation services. From 1991-2007, he was CEO of Agricore United. Publicly traded, with annual sales of $5 billion, Agricore had core business activities in grain, crop input retail, feed, and financial services. It posted shareholder returns above the TSX benchmark, and won awards for enterprise risk management, IT innovation, and HR management.
Brian serves on a wide range of public, private and Crown Boards. He has provided leadership to non-profit organizations, such as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The Conference Board of Canada and the Arthritis Society.
As a Director, Brian has played a key role in strategic transitions. As Board Chair, Brian led the strategic process that culminated with Ridley Australia selling its control stake to Fairfax. He chaired the Wellington West Special Committee that reviewed Company strategic optionsÃ¢â‚¬â€culminating with its sale to National Bank. He played a key role crafting the governance structure of the Princess Auto Advisory Board. Brian is active in advising private clientsÃ¢â‚¬â€domestic and internationalÃ¢â‚¬â€focusing on governance, mergers, acquisitions, and other potential business combinations.
Brian has a graduate degree in agriculture economics from McGill. As a graduate of the Director's College of McMaster's DeGroote School of Business, he holds a Chartered Director designation. His ongoing professional development has focused in the areas of mediation, decision making, and negotiation. Brian is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, the National Association of Corporate Directors (USA), World Presidents Organization (WPO), and Canada's Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Institute.
