Max Little: A test for Parkinson's with a phone call
Anna, what I understand is that he is saying that RIGHT NOW there are no biomarkers, and his system is aiming to get those early biomarkers. In voice processing systems, usually you have to train the system. A few years ago you would train the voice recognition system in order for it to be able to recognize your voice. After a lot of trainning and development, now we have cell phone systems that recognize the fonems in most talkers. I understand this system is still in the initial phase. People who worked on fonem recognition knew what they were looking for (fonems), those were their biomarkers which stated the person had said a specific fonem. This people are searching for the biomarkers for people with some special condition (a lot more complex than fonems) ant therefore they need many voice samples.
