Is happiness just an illusion?
Wow, there has been so much said on this discussion, the ? or statement has definitely touched some deep chords with people and myself. For me happiness and gratitude are some how linked together and that you can find one beside the other if given the opportunity. With that said many factors can hinder a healthy balance of happiness, please let me try and explain by my example. I being a suicidal survivor was a person who loved life to it's highest plateaus yet I also experienced life's lowest landscapes so my joys/happiness fluctuated greatly. With a simple dose of medication I seem to have discovered a joy that is not based on finding the highs but on discovering a more level landscape. Fluoxetine, which adjusted my serotonin levels helped reduce the highs and lows and in the end I can honestly say that i am a happier person while witnessing happiness around me. Maybe that what happiness is a witnessing of the joys in others and ourselves with gratitude thrown in? Thank you and sorry if subject matter offends others.

Americans are behind other countries when it comes to knowledge about science, technology, engineering and math. How do we change that?
I had to look up a word that I was not familiar with "etymology" and when I did it pulled every thing you said together quite well. Greek word is (etymon), = literal sense of a word. If I ruled the school world for a day I would initiate multiple classes on learning which would include all of the unique varieties out there, with the hopes that one style would work for one person and possibly another method for another child. Learning is such a unique process and we all have to find our path, if this is accomplished I would hope that our interest in life would expand and that society could turn in a more positive direction. Thanks for your insightful view and I hope that you are a teacher of one sort or another

Work vs Automation.
...and why we are at it lets have computers come up with TED Talk questions instead of people...Then we can all sit around in a joyfully bliss circle and do absolutely nothing all day long.

The ripple effect?
what is a ripple but a change of consciousness. For some it is a seed on stone for others a seed on fertile soil, effects occur when man has positioned his consciousness beside his will. The question then becomes, what fuels or feeds the will with lasting empowerment and not fleeting moments.

With all the smart things we learn fred TED talks, does it ever make you wonder that...
Their 15 minute moment in the lime light was built with success upon failures and if given more time I am positive that more depth could be shone and therefore the difficulties that stood in their way. I also believe that some people have stronger passions then others and it is just their gift to humanity, yours may lie else where. Don't fret, remember it is a 15 min capsule of time that has taken years to build.
