Which application of drones excites or terrifies you the most?
It's a shame that the world's first widespread exposure to the drone had to fall under the auspices of military technology associated with an ambiguous and clear-objective-deprived war on terror. With all of the possible benign applications, the droid will hopefully go far in providing us with net societal benefits, but it's not the technology itself that is so disquieting. While we engage in this Middle Eastern Whack-A-Mole, we're essentially presenting the world with an image of an American power taking extreme and overt measures to put out fires that it can't quite stifle. We're giving the proof of our intervention to our enemies, many of whom have long sought to tie such actions to American efforts in an attempt to foster anti-American sentiment. To them, the drones are American, a clear tangible proof of our destructive presence that is undoubtedly leading to increased levels of fear. In the past, the cause of such fear may not have been manifested in a physical, observable form, but now... As Yoda once said: Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate... leads to suffering.
