Craig Jackson Posted 9 months ago How can we lessen the disparity between the rich and the poor in America? I think it comes down to our psychological make up. Some rich people are so greedy and selfish, that they're uninterested in helping the poor (whom they may consider to be lazy and looking for hand outs). While some poor people certainly fit that negative stereotype, I like to believe that the majority don't. I think it's up to us as individuals to pull our own weight and help those that are struggling (but trying like hell) to pull their own. Since we are not all born with the same opportunity (which is another debate altogether) we need programs in place to serve as an equalizer. I say tax the rich more and give more breaks to the less-fortunate. And by breaks, I don't mean life-long hand outs. I think people on welfare should be drug tested and the amount of time they can receive assistance should be limited. I don't know much about taxes or welfare, but that's just what I feel would be appropriate.
