Nov 3 2009: I also think that tampering with Earth's climate might be a dangerous thing to do. Our predictions on the effects are based on models that we don't know for sure are accurate, because we cannot test them. Or can we?
Why not use Venus as a laboratory? We could build artifacts in Venus orbit that would shade sunlight and analyze the effect on the planet's atmosphere. I believe we should do it over a few decades (or maybe a couple of centuries) before attempting something similar on our own planet.
Meanwhile, we could pursue reduction of our footprint in the Earth's environment.
