I am the Owner, Managing Director and Head of Design at LYNAconcepts Ltd. a design company in Uganda, founded in 2006. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from Makerere University. I am the Regional Coordinator for the Women of Valor Foundation, a women empowerment programme targeted towards improving the lives of rural women in Uganda by enabling them realised their dreams. The program uses mentorship, the media and targeted business training as tools to better equip the beneficiaries with skills that help them improve their livelihoods.
I am passionate about design and the youth, and bring these two together to effect change is something I feel greatly about.
The Young Innovator Award/International Contemporary Design Fair are a project in which we are encouraging the youth to identify design solutions that can help solve environment and climate change challenges. Through the Young Innovator Award we are engaging the youth in the solution making process, we equip them with skills that they can use in the job market either as more knowledgeable employees or as creative thinking innovators/entrepreneurs. As a student contest they are pitted against their peers across the country to provide an innovative, creative and eco-sustainable solution to a climate change issue. The International Contemporary Design Fair seeks to provide a platform for Ugandan developers and designers of eco-products and technologies through which they can make accessible their products to the public for trade.
Talk to me about innovation in design; about the possible solutions design has to offer for the modern day challenges we face, about involving the youth in decision making and solution creation.
