In 2007 I totally changed direction to set up (in tandem with my software business) my latest venture - Blue Badge Style www.bluebadgestyle.com. This provides information on a range of issues from trendy wheelchairs to stylish venues, (their accessibility & facilities). My ambition is to make this a profitable business that is the go to' site for anyone who is less able (or not) and wants to maintain his or her sense of style. I want to encourage people who have disabilities to go out and enjoy themselves without feeling embarrassed or frightened. To do this people need courage and information on what to expect i.e. via Blue Badge Style Mobile App, Website and PADs (Pictorial Access Descriptions). We want our logo to become the social media button that is recognised as the sign for accessibility with style. I also have a campaigning side where I want BBS to be an agent for change. In particular I want Venues to aspire to the unique BBS Tick rating system (just like a Michelin Star), where venues are marked on style, accessibility and facilities for the less able. I also want to encourage the manufacture of well-designed and attractive disability equipment under the BBS Brand. We have accrued investment of 40kGBP, we have had 76k visitors to the site and 2k downloads of the App. We are now ready for the next level of growth & investment to make BBS a global brand.
Disability with style and freedom shared. Using technology to improve the social side of disability & promote inclusion by stealth.
Blue Badge Style - where disability and style are not mutually exclusive. Freedom Shared is the ethos. Everyone needs to be able to go out and enjoy life. Our App is potentially be the one app that is essential to anyone who is disabled or knows someone who is disabled. A global need for 1 Bn people. It rates stylish/trendy places on accessibility & facilities and helps the less able to go out and enjoy life. Thereby promoting inclusion by stealth.

In the early 90s I found out I had MS after falling off my high heels once too often - people thought I was drunk and thats what was so confusing as I might well have been. My job involved entertaining clients over lunch or dinner and as a result colleagues, friends and family often consulted me on where was good to eat or drink. I also knew if they were accessible and what obstacles I might meet whilst walking with sticks and more recently in a wheelchair.
Although progressively disabled, this has not impaired my sense of style and I believe passionately that disability and style should not be mutually exclusive.
I set up Blue Badge Style www.bluebadgestyle.com , to provide information on a range of issues from trendy wheelchairs to stylish venues, (their accessibility & facilities). My ambition is to make this a commercially run business that is the go to' site for anyone who is less able (or not) and wants to maintain his or her sense of style.
