Hi! I'm Stephanie. I'm a psychology student at Laurier University. I am currently kind of trying to find myself career wise, but the one thing I have always been is curious. I love learning, whether it be online, through books, or through Ted Talks. Ted Talks for me has been a way to broaden my understanding of various topics and to sort of brush the surface of different topics. I love exploring the world around me and seeing what's out there. We live in one of the most interesting times of social change and technological acceleration and its all really fascinating. I'm totally just a glasses wearing, coffee drinking, face totally stuck in a book or my computer all around nerd. I love the environment, when I was 6 I wanted to be a marine biologist and work with intelligent marine life, like sharks, whales, and dolphins. Now I'm kind of straddling the arts vs science sides of psychology of people. Brains are cool, really. I'm totally unemployed right now. I love volunteering though, and I've had some really great opportunities with some of life's excellent people right at home. I come from a small family, one brother, two parents, a dog, you know the normal stuff.
I am passionate about Psychology, music, molecular biology, genetics, human behaviour, connection, eco systems, and everything. I'm just really curious about the world.
My idea worth spreading, that I've accumulated and been formulating in my head since university started. so that's 2 and a bit years is the connection between music, and human behaviour in the mentally ill. I think that music has a surreal connecting power, and I've been it proven through my volunteer work and the path I was formerly on and might still be on in school. Music therapy. I have spent this summer (2013) working with veterans of the second World War and the Korean War. Their mental health status is highly complicated by Alzheimer's, dementia, PTSD, depression, and that's just to name a few. Then, add the music. I've been working with a trained music therapist, and I am experienced as a music therapy student to aid these gentlemen in uplifting and providing close emotional and cognitive connections through music. I have been totally honoured to see the almost immediate change in a few of the men when music is shared between a small group of people. It's really a gift.
Anything. I will learn with you if I don't know it, I can teach you about what I do know, and I would love to be taught about things I know nothing about that you're an expert on. I just wanna learn.
Sports. I used to be an athlete growing up. I got a brain injury. Forced end to my sports journey. My vision surprises people. I see the world differently.
I'm here to learn. Simple as that. I want to learn from the experts of different fields and just learn about my world. I seek knowledge.
