About Busisiwe

Bio

I am a Student in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Cape Town. I aim to use my Commerce background in the field of global development advisory one day.
When I am not busy with academics, I am a Grassroots Activist. I have started projects and helped coordinate events that range from school talks; workshops; social media campaigns; high-level debating forums; spaces for artistic and creative expression - in order to empower girls to create the future they imagine.
Skilled communication is my key strength. My ability to maintain cultural sensitivity and promote team cohesiveness when working on an event or project has made me successful in most of my endeavors.
My mission is to create spaces where girls can talk about their problems in an open way and take an active role in coming up with workable solutions. Bringing girls into spaces where they can discuss their problems is easy, but giving them the tools to make an impact in their own communities is difficult - so that is where my focus mostly lies. My special know-how is the intersection of creating spaces for open discussion + the use of social media to mobilize people around an action.
I am looking for global experiences! I am also available for collaborating on leadership and/or entrepreneurship projects. Contact me through this profile.

My most recent TEDx talk was in 2013 at the TEDxUCT conference in Cape Town. My talk was centered on re-thinking sex-education in gendered spaces and re-imagining the way we raise our girls.

Eve Ensler: Suddenly, my body
Eve, I have become a pilgrim, visiting my body always. I have embraced the idea of taking on the huge responsibility of connecting my life to that of 3.5 other women in the world. In the name of connectedness, Eve, thank you for finding me. I was drowning. #PROUD V-GIRL
