Dan Barber: How I fell in love with a fish
It's wonderful, but does not address the issue, which is of course consumption. Restaurants waste tons of food and groceries stores buy more than they can sell! Want to know why? So that we as consumers can have everything we could possibly want to eat...at our fingertips then throw it away when we don't. We feel entitled to that kind of wealth. We are unwilling to wait even for a moment and businesses are unwilling to give a competitor a chance at their customer, so they sell things they know they have no consumer base for.

Are people really more narcissistic than ever before? If so, are social networks and other new media to blame?
No, this generation isn't more narcissistic than any before it. Facebook, Twitter, etc, are just new ways of people fitting in, or following the leader. Years ago, a cool kid started wearing a jean jacket, so everyone who wanted to be cool did the same. Now, a cool kid puts a ton of "duck-face" portraits on their page and all the kids who want to be cool...do the same. Every generation will find a way to stand out.
