The current currency system may have worked in the past when the world was not as connected as it is today. The main issue is the method by which work and goods are valued. The current system so distorts equity that it automatically causes billions of people to needlessly suffer - limiting opportunities for them to earn a decent wage that could cover basic necessities and promotes concentration of wealth. This is a multi-dimensional problem where as resources get more limited, we need to plan and think longer term but the current system promotes very short term gratification and rewards. The entire economic system is at risk unless build-in safeguards are created to encourage conservation, equality, basic social values and cooperation. This issue goes beyond borders, political philosophy & dogma, religions and the environment. All aspects of our social structure is tied to the currency system. It can either provide a stable long term means to work together globally or destroy us.

I love TED for its principles and the insights it provides to everyone. It would be an honor to help in any way I can to add to the body of knowledge or getting its message(s) out. Some stories are encouraging and marvelous. Others are disturbing due to what mankind may do with the technologies being explored. I have to admit that sometimes people attack a challenge for the shear reason that they can or economic benefit, but we do need to ask ourselves if we should. Regardless, I am glad that TED shares all these stories and I see people asking the bigger questions also. Best of luck to all contributors at TED. I'll be watching. Thank you.
