May 12 2013: Conformity: that may be true, however, the countries with highly successful education systems all seem to have an even greater conformity in their schools.
I think the real issue is we have only one path for students, and if you don't do well on that path, you pretty much just get dropped. Our school system is like a gauntlet.
Apr 27 2013: Biotech is probably going to bring us as many or more new inventions as electricity did, so I'm not too worried. It's kind of hard to be pessimistic if you watch enough TED videos
Apr 27 2013: They're all good except for the first one. SPACE has inconsistent behavior depending on where the focus is in the browser. For example after watching the video, when I pressed space instead of scrolling down, it switched back to full-screen mode for the video. This problem is only exacerbated by the fact that some pages use javascript to change focus after loading.
Apr 9 2013: Another problem that I've seen in local elections is one of hiring people to run on the "other side" to split the votes off from your opponent. It seems that having money is just an unstoppable advantage.
Apr 9 2013: The small contributions mentioned in the talk are vouchers. So it's the same thing as public funding except each person gets to decide where their $5 goes. Everyone gets a voucher, and it can't be used for other things... so except for not being able to use that money on Social Security or whatever, it doesn't affect the poor.
