sloanhilton hilton Posted over 2 years ago If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind? I'm 20 years old and from South Carolina. Ive been up and down the east coast of NA and also to Ecuador and the Galapagos islands. Other then that im studying to get my B.S. in marine biology. Thought it would be helpful to see some of my background to understand where im coming from. The first images that come to mind when thinking of Africa is all the great coast line that countless people have been able to live of off since prehistory. Second is the combination of jungle and desert that make up the very diverse living area for most of the animals (including humans) of the land. These great features of this large and special land have helped to shape the evolution of animals and the geographic distribution of people since life began. It breaks my heart to see what people have put on here. I hope that in 50 years more people will start to see Africa as the great biological melting pot it is instead of having people speak of the poor, HIV +, Malaria infected people that dance in the dirt. Even coming from the south where racism dies hard and in moments of weakness I can feel the blood of racist in me passed down from my previous generations these were not the pictures I wanted to hear about people having. The natural resources such as the environment, animals, and people are the true diamonds in the rough of Africa. Not some carbon based item (Diamonds or Oil) that comes out of the dirt. The disses, malnutrition, desertation, poaching, pollution, and greed are the true dirt and rock that must be removed for this beautiful diamond to shine so bright everyone will have to have the same picture I've been blessed with being able to envision.
