I'm 19 year young dane, my name is Dennis Rosenkilde, and here is my tedstory: I sing gospel once every second week, and play 4 instruments: Bass, Guitar, Piano and Saxophone. Besides that i like math, as the only person in the entire world who actually enjoys it. (Yea yea, there's no reason to tell me it isn't true) But as far as i'm concerned, young danish people like myself who can see just how beautiful math is, is a myth, and I started wandering "why?" And since i really couldn't figure it out myself, i just asked them. And everyone said the exact same thing: it's boring and they couldn't understand my passion, at all. And again i asked myself "Why?", but, smarter then before, i immediatly asked "why can't you see it's' beaty?", and the students didn't know. But i found the answer in the classroom. Students is doing one equation after another, following the same step-by-step system over and over again. Suddenly it was very clear to me. But now that i saw the problem in one subject, i saw the same basic mistakes all over the board. The step-by-step system is worse in math and related subjects, like physics and chemistry. But the same memorizing, productive style of learning, is the same, in every subject, in every classroom (with obvious exceptions). We use a system which doesn't inspire anyone, to do anything, in a space where there is no room for mistakes, where we work, 6-8 hours a day + homework, for 14 years, and all we get is a freaking 7-system based number! now, do we really only need 7 categories to accurately distinguish the thousands of graduaters every year? Not to mention that the censor only have roughly 20 minutes to place you in one of those categories.. This realisation was not a huge chock to me, honestly, i have always hated the school system and finally i went from "I hate this *CENSORED*-hole" to "we can make this *CENSORED*-hole a wonderfull valley". But this time the question in my head wasn't "why?" but "how?" And my obsession with answering that question have brought me here to Ted.com and will bring me many places in the future.
An idea worth spreading
LET ME EXPLAIN MY PASSION IN MORE THEN 200 CHARACTERS!! I'm passionate about it, so why do i have the least amount of characters to describe it, compared to the other questions?
I'm passionate about
learning.Talking about learning makes my hearth beat faster, it makes me stand up, it makes me angry. But for every time it have made me angry. It have been worth it by ten folds.
