Dec 21 2011: I think the concept of marriage works stronger in societies where gender roles are unequal. For example, when women could not work or support themselves (without a man), marriage was necessary. Today, it's not. Societies, where people have more social and economic options, probably divorce more.
Does marriage work? I don't know. Does religion work? They've been around forever, so that's saying something.
Dec 1 2011: Sometimes you have to lose everything to see what you really have. I think you have the right attitude. Start making some new memories. Cute family btw. You're very lucky.
Dec 1 2011: When you lose everything (like Tony) there's just you. If you can get past you, then there is an amazing amount of intelligence. So what's Tony's karma? Felon or philosopher?
Jan 6 2011: Less rules are better. Too many rules harm people's personal liberties and make them unable to make decisions. I think Malcolm Gladwell talked about why traffic lights do not exist on sidewalks. He theorized that traffic lights would make sidewalks less efficient. I agree. People can usually work things out. Obviously, this does not work w/ car traffic b/c car accidents can be lethal. The key is to be able to differentiate between what is / is not dangerous.
Dec 1 2010: I love the quote about managers "Managers are just there to interrupt you b/c they don't do any of the work so they have to make sure everyone else is doing the work."
I think Jason's point is not to let unimportant things get in the way of important things. Meetings are a breeding ground for unimportant ideas.
Sep 9 2010: Telling people what you want or want to achieve may indicate that you're doing something for others or to feel good through outward praise. When you keep it inside, you may be doing it for yourself. Your finding a inner reason to do it.
My philosophy is if I need to tell someone b/c I need their help, I will. Otherwise, words are pretty cheap. Just do it and let it go.
Jun 16 2010: Ben, I loved this talk b/c I think of this life an illusion and that we can occupy different forms in different lifetimes. Can I prove it? No. I just feel that way. Do I believe people when they see a UFO? No. Not b/c it's not possible; rather the evidence is not there to support it.
I will say this: this talk made me feel dumb. I guess awareness is the first step. Thank you Michael!
Apr 28 2010: The brain is still a big mystery, so this talk is very exciting. I'd like to put in a feature request. How about an ON/OFF button for my brain?
