A comment on Conversation: What is the advantage of evolving the ability to cry?

Mar 15 2013: I would say the advantage is the immediate reaction from others. When you see someone cry, you immediately know something is wrong and usually try to help them. And also many people cry loudly. If we were a group of nomadic hunters (for example) and someone got attacked, hurt, or fell, they would cry and surely someone would stop and go back to help. Empathy is what keeps the human race together and surviving. If nobody cared about anyone else, nobody would invent medicine, vaccinations, become doctors, teachers, mothers or fathers!
  • A comment on Talk: Stewart Brand: The dawn of de-extinction. Are you ready?

Mar 15 2013: I think this talk was incredible. What if we were capable of bringing back dinosaurs to study them? It is always tragic when we lose a species due to hunting and habitat loss. Most species ARE dying off just because of humans, as much as we try to blame it on other reasons. And every time I hear about a new subspecies of iconic animals being critically endangered, like lions, tigers, bears, and monkeys, I have to wonder... when there are no animals left, what will we have? It may not seem like a huge threat now, but just try imagine the world without any wild animals. It would be a sad, lonely place.

I am actually trying to help save the most endangered subspecies of gorilla on the planet, the Cross River Gorilla in Cameroon, Africa. If you want to help, please visit my fundraising website!
