Los Angeles-based Interior Designer Kristin Kilmer has had the privilege of restoring and creating the interiors of many architecturally significant homes designed by the city’s most renowned architects such as RM Schindler, John Lautner, and Ray Kappe, the designer of the first Leed Platinum-Certified Living Home. She has had the honor of learning the methodologies behind these great leaders in order to design and build furniture, lighting, and accessories that would highlight the spectacular features of these homes, each one quite distinctive from the other.
Her work has been featured in The New York Times Style Magazine, Vanity Fair, Western Interiors, Modernism magazine, California Home and Design, as well as Tim Street Porter’s new book, “La Modern.” who has as said of her, “…that he has never seen an interior designer interpret so well the architecture of these iconic houses given their different styles and periods.”
Kristin Kilmer Design, Inc. has now put all of this study and theory into innovative and modern day practice by focusing on contemporary, sustainable design. Her full-service design firm is committed to keeping the carbon footprint at a minimum by using local manufacturers whenever possible, as well as recyclable materials, allergen-free, non-toxic fillers, paints, and finishes, energy saving electrical appliances and fixtures, as well as water efficient plumbing.
Her creativity is matched by her business accruement and she was asked to appear in the upcoming commercial for QuickBooks, who are recognizing entrepreneurs with successful small businesses. Kristin continues to challenge herself while keeping her client’s needs clearly in focus as it’s always her primary objective to bring out her client’s creativity and vision.
It is wonderful opportunity to participate in TED and especially as a part of the Kohler Living Home as their positive impact on the environment and community is a testament to a new, higher standard in architecture and design. Other current projects by Kristin Kilmer Design Inc. include: Complete interior design of a glass and steel Pierre Koenig house in Malibu (new construction, all sustainable), Complete re-model of a beachfront loft-style condo in Santa Monica, (sustainable, all non-toxic, allergen-free), Re-model of two bedroom condo in Beverly Hills (sustainable).
I am currently designing the Kohler Living Homes showcase house which will be displayed at the TED conference in Long Beach on February 3 - 7, 2009
