Born in the UK in 1973, I moved to Australia in 1987. I graduated from Macquarie University with a BA (hons) in Philosophy before moving to Japan in 1995 to teach ESL. After 12 months in Kobe I moved to Europe, living first in Brussels, then London, then Frankfurt. I returned to Australia in 2003, and have since completed an MA (English), and published poems and short stories in Australian and overseas journals.
Education, literature, ideas.
'Mixology' - for those who recognise the importance of ideas, are excited to learn new things, and who seek out connections to each other.
Interesting things.
I've known about TED for several years, but 2012 was a watershed. Two things happened - some of my students started to recommend talks that had informed their learning, and I would then have to grapple with certain ideas in my lectures and tutorials. One student - he knows who he is! - would email links to me during my lecture, with comments such as, Mr Billingham, you really need to see this...Secondly, we renovated our home - TED talks were the perfect accompaniment to hours of painting. Now, in February 2013, my colleague Monica Gragg and I, with a group of talented Events Management students, are organizing TEDxBMIHMS....
