friction, tourqe loss, space required, weight making it all null and void fairly quick...
I must admit that i like the way you think, but..... y'know its all been thought of already.
You should take a look at a cummins or detroit, or a cat engine from a truck mate, similar, but balanced to deliver without the overweight.
Kinda like there is no reason to put a gokart motor in a bulldozer and the other way round too.
Currently I am working on a vertical wind turbine, which will be coupled to a matched flywheel, which will in turn drive other things such as an air compressor, which will........ run a submersible bore pump..............maybe?
Mar 8 2013: Although i dont currently have the evidence,
We, and our ability to procreate will be culled by several methods during the next 10-30 years, resulting in a 'sustainable' population for the earth to support, this began some time ago, and it has many supporters.
If we were to reproduce at will, then i think yes the resources of the planet required to sustain life would be depleted to an extent that, the populations with the means to, would destroy all others, thus ensuring their own survival, either way its being planned as we type, and either way its not such a pretty picture.
I think soon we will hear and read the terms "Doesn't have the right to procreate/reproduce", and "Is being charged with unlawful procreation" .
all this is good for the planet yeah?, but not so good for those who get culled., so whats more important?
Mar 8 2013: the decisions we make today determine the choices we have tomorrow
in a way we are condemned to keep making the same inherently flawed choices, however, if one would really want to improve, and i mean really be committed to changing something big in a big way, then one must swim against the tide of the billions who are daily controlled by their desires, their inner beast of personal and individual gain.
I have no idea how to do this, i just follow my own path, its sometimes considered by others as weird, but so what.
perhaps we need to ask why we are governed/led by the nose/desires.
in short "YES" you have the power, to choose how your generation is going to lead the world, however, some choices have already been removed from you, others have been replaced by extremely destructive ones, and still other are different from 20 years ago.
Your choices are changing almost every week, so the 'system' is trying (not really) to prepare you for a future that we have no idea what it will look like in the next 5 years, you may inherit a global wasteland, or a second planet, or both.
I understand that if this finance is ever going to be paid back, then future generations will be severly affected, this means that my children (and theirs) may become enslaved in the country of their forefathers. (to be dramatic)
Should we be looking for the solution to end this debt roller-coaster in our lifetime ?(next 50 years), or is that just not possible?
Is there a solution?, or are we sooo deep, that the only way out is that there isnt a way out?
I understand that as individuals choose, this is their choice, credit, loans, borrowing en masse. But is there a viable alternative to keeping this inflated lifestyle/standard of living to which we have become so addictively accustomed ?, or Does it all have to go, end, shut it down?,
The other part is---------------- Where did all the borrowed money come from?------
Mar 4 2013: " Governments and people are doing their best of efforts to solve the existing crisis"
Are you serious?, like seriously, you dont know that people are governed for their assets?
I personally think we need to be looking at alternatives to electricity, such as compressed air, or millstones, or huge concrete flywheels, magnetic generators, or others which provide tourque without current or charge, check out the brumbypump.com.au , its a water pump for wells and bores which uses compressed air, has one moving part, and hardly any risk of failure, now i can build a similar pump for under $150 which could be used to move or lift 800 litres of water per day, every day, why would i spend $4000 on an electric submersible which is costing me power and has 67 moving parts which the water will corrode/adhere minerals.
We live in a high tech world now, we want things that are high tech, when with a little bit of elbow grease, thought process and design, you can make something almost free, people are not interested, they want an app for it, want to control it from their armchair, ipad, iphone, or voice control. this is sad i think, and has prevented a lot of the positive design and thinking which was so rampant during the industrial revolution, look at Leonardo Da Vinci's designs for machines, how brilliant, functional, useful, but made only from wood, rope and some metals, no silicon chips, no software.
Mar 4 2013: hmm, yes it is only through adversity that we can learn to be more creative and imaginative will our hands.
here lies an issue that computers, satellites and silicon chips cant fix, we actually might need to get out of the office chair, turn off the net and do some physical labour in the sun, yes real dirt and all.
I think it will be similar to what it is now, with a few major exceptions, like, things that are cheap now will be hard to get, and transport will be local only, and mostly by foot.

A comment on Conversation: Why all the pessimism?
I also think that we lack vision, hunger for difference, and real people power among other things
