A comment on Talk: Alex Tabarrok on how ideas trump crises

Apr 27 2009: How much do the factory workers in China make? Almost nothing. The fact that the average chinese is wealthier than ever doesn't mean China (or any other country) is heading towards true social equity. IMHO, the forces that drive the markets barely help us in any sense acomplish what really matters: the evolution of ethics and the respect towards others and the world that arises from it. Cooperation between all the countries would be great, but not on the present terms. Globalization sometimes does not mean cooperation, but instead an ugly division of costs (humam, enviromental, etc) and benefits. I wonder if Mr. Tabarrok really belives our current model is ok. Because I can conceive of one in wich we don't have to choose what treatment to research, at least not based on revenue expectation.
