  • A reply on Talk: Colin Powell: Kids need structure

Jan 25 2013: And that is the beautiful thing about raising your children the best possible way you know how; it ends with results such as yours.

Kudos to you and hopefully they will instill that same sort of - dare I say :) - structure on your grandkids, because that foundation is working perfectly for you.

Jan 25 2013: But, couldn't it be said that your way of raising your boys was structured in the sense of free, creative thinking / learning? In my mind it is the consistency that frames the structure. I think of structure as a foundation, not necessarily control.

You gave your boys the foundation of free thinking.

Jan 18 2013: I agree and would go even further in that, I think that people in general tend to get fixed in their stance on a lot of subjects. I feel like American society is becoming this rigid, staunchy set of ideals where one must 'stand their ground' in order to win and if one were to give in the slightest, then it could be perceived as weakness.

Compare playing poker to politics: I draw a medium sized pocket pair. You draw two strong face cards. I really like my pair, so I raise you. You really, really like your AceKing so you re raise me all in for all my chips.

In this moment, I can concede that you might have a stronger hand, but I am so fixed on my pair I can't let it go.

Compare this scenario to driving, playing any individual sport - literally any sort of situtation where it is me against you.

One political ideology versus the other. It seems to be the current mentality of our times.

Jan 15 2013: When in doubt, do without.

It keeps me on track to my necessities and helps eliminate the excessive.
  • A reply on Conversation: If you could jump in to the future and see one thing for yourself now, what would that be ?

Jan 15 2013: Are you limited to only one career in your lifetime? Start down one path and then figure out how to navigate towards the other. keep your options open.

Jan 15 2013: I like this comment. It makes me wonder about all the people who do not believe humans are the cause of "global warming" (or that it exists at all). If they thought about this statement; would they be able to deny that argument any longer?
  • A reply on Conversation: Can you define your life in just six words?

Jan 15 2013: We can all think deeply Ben :)
  • A reply on Conversation: Has the time come for the U.S Second Amendment to be repealed or amended?

    Jan 14 2013: Fair enough.

If only the guns could be used more with the safety on... .. I guess we'd be debating something else.
  • A reply on Conversation: Has the time come for the U.S Second Amendment to be repealed or amended?

Jan 14 2013: The phrase 'guns don't kill people, people kill people' is starting to wear out. Guns are weapons and are meant to harm, injure and/or kill. That was the whole purpose of making these devices. They weren't manufacturered to sit on the chair and appear innocent. They are far from innocent.

If this statemt is to imply that gun can sit there but without action it will not harm or kill someone - agreed.

But I can say that about a lot of devices/tools. The simple matter of fact is, when used by a person, the gun can and will kill other people.

    (sorry off topic)

Jan 14 2013: you wouldn't think that Benjamin Franklin would lie? Don't be confused with the 'times' and the ability to lie.
