Feb 15 2013: Well said Veena. I absolutely agree with you. In fact we had a discussion on Quib.ly on how to use social media as a tool and surprisingly we got some great ideas there: If you would like to see the discussion it's here: http://quib.ly/qu/should-schools-harness-social-media
Agree with you on the point that social media is so easily available. Better teach them how to use it wisely than scold them later for something unpleasant they may end up doing online.
I'd also love to invite you to join Quib.ly as I think as a savvy educator you may find it interesting.
Feb 13 2013: Post this video we had a discussion: http://quib.ly/qu/does-a-national-curriculum-stifle-innovation Of course we had a varied number of responses as the comments here. This is what one of the members said and I kind of agree with him: "I know plenty of teachers who have no problem innovating around a set of subjects, but you can't innovate an exam when you, the school, the pupils are all placed under pressure to get higher and higher marks - you just have to teach the test."
Feb 13 2013: For many children who find attending school difficult whether through illness, special needs, bullying or simply those who require flexibility, the continued growth of online schools could be a world of help. Online schools are the future of education and they should be encouraged. http://quib.ly/qu/are-online-schools-the-future-of-education
Feb 6 2013: Pushing something that bores them is a surefire way to put them off for life. A better approach, I think, is to stop and think about their existing interests and find ways that will enhance those interests and delight them.
Feb 6 2013: Great. I absolutely agree with all of you. I had posted this question on Quib.ly asking parents/teachers their opinion. http://quib.ly/qu/should-social-media-be-taught-in-high-school
Everyone seems to agree that social media be taught in schools. Now, the question is are there any schools who are doing it? How can this idea be proposed to the other schools so that every child is benefitted with social media education.
Feb 5 2013: Brilliant. The language in text book plays such a big role. I absolutely agree with science and story. Makes sense to me. It's definitely not 'dumbing down'. In fact I absolutely agree with video games teaching the STEM subjects in the most fun way! http://quib.ly/qu/can-video-games-teach-the-curriculum
