When we are first learning about something but don't understand it very well, we tend to over complicate things by making our model accommodate all of the (apparent) special cases. Once it is actually understood, the special cases tend to fall away, leaving only the essence of the problem, which is usually much less complicated and confusing. Of course getting over the big hump takes a lot of work!

Just back from TEDActive 2013, my 6th TED. What an awesome experience! The talks were truly inspiring, and so was the opportunity to connect with other attendees. It's so cool to come out of a talk session and be able to have a real conversation with another attendee, especially someone from a completely different background. This was the perfect place to recharge. I can't wait for next year's event--Whistler here we come!
