About Me

The association "International Federation for Sustainable Development and Fight to Poverty in the Mediterranean-Black Sea" – FISPMED - was founded in 2004, based on the positive experience of the Seam project, supported by the European Commission (DG Enlargement and DG Regional Policy) and by the Italian Minister of the Environment. The project created a network of 188 partners from 38 countries, representatives of cultural institutes, NGOs, non governmental agencies, studies and research institutes and universities. In 2008 with a regional law approved unanimously the Veneto Region became a founding member.

Nowadays the association has 216 partners across 39 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean and Black Sea area and it therefore represents over 1,8 million citizens from this area. The coordinating office has 4 full-time people working in it.

The geographic area is the Mediterranean-Black Sea basin. This area shares ancient historical traditions (the Mediterranean basin was also called White middle Sea, in contrast with the Black Sea), populated with encounters and clashes of different civilizations (just consider that the area embraces members from 3 of the main monotheist religions).
