It all began in 1903 when my great grandfather founded our family business, T Saveker & Sons. Being the first female family member to join the manufacturing business in 1995 I experienced first hand the highs and lows of being part of a family in business.
I ran our family's 106 year old business for 7 years before being in the impossible position of placing the business into administration in 2009. This all armed me with a wealth of experience and I spent much of the following year working to support other business leaders.
During my time at Savekers Ltd I'd restructured, won awards, made family members redundant, recovered from a major fire which wiped out production, learnt to weld and polish, carried out an MBO, acquired businesses and managed multiple sites. I really enjoy looking at strategic brand development and supporting businesses, including family businesses, which have unique challenges.
The draw to 'family businesses' proved too great and 2012 saw me fulfill my desire to create a community, focused on excellence, to ensure families can access appropriate support through their advisers. This is under my company Families In Business Ltd - which I believe is the legacy of my own family business.
Families in Business (FIB) was born out of the experiences and frustrations I felt about the lack of understanding and support around issues affecting families working in businesses together.
Families working in business - from the psychological aspects, the fundamental family needs & how this impacts business. Passionate about supporting all those involved including advisers
The need for a local, regional, national and international community for families in Business (FIB) and to ensure a go to place for family businesses, particularly SME businesses.
This community will have exceptional professionals, suppliers and advisers sitting within it while families in business know that there is somewhere for them to go to - whatever and whenever there’s a need. The need may be personal, around succession, for the family, for the business.
Anything you like - communication and interaction is always fascinating. Most conversations offer an opportunity to learn something
Ice skating. I can also weld, electroplate and make a great dovetail joint.
