Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone?
Although I agree with the fact that a lot of teenagers are too engrossed in their devices, I feel like this is too much of a generalization. There are still a lot of teenagers who value conversation and only use texting for the most minute of details such as asking where someone is or other trivial matters. Texting has not yet replaced conversation. However, if it ever does, I agree with Mrs Turkle's analysis. We will change fundamentally in that we will no longer be able to communicate as powerfully and hence no longer be able to self reflect as effectively.

John McWhorter: Txtng is killing language. JK!!!
Those were my sentiments exactly, Linda. Because of society's dependance on technology, people are misunderstanding the importance of appropriation and formality. I think that writing should stay separated from speech as they are two very different things and have different purposes. A lot of texts I get are basically incomprehensible and are very tough to decipher. Furthermore, this excessive use of texting is causing people's working vocabulary to decrease and this could indeed cause problems.
