religion (riˈlijən)
noun
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods
• a particular system of faith and worship: the world's great religions.
• a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance: consumerism is the new religion.
PHRASES
get religion informal be converted to religious belief and practices.
DERIVATIVES
religionless adjective
ORIGIN Middle English (originally in the sense ‘life under monastic vows’): from Old French, or from Latin religio(n-) ‘obligation, bond, reverence,’ perhaps based on Latin religare ‘to bind.’
The vast majority of people who claim to be religious, in the traditional interpretation, believe unquestioningly because they were taught to by their parents at the very earliest stages of their psychological development. Though this observation does not disprove the existence of a god, it does call into question the utter lack of critical thought on the topic of god and the dogmas associated with religious belief.
.
Cherry picking my "observation" on religion and providing an attenuated definition of the word is at best disingenuous. In my observation I point to "more plausible possibilities" as an example where critical thinking can provide a reasonable alternative to the conundrums of religion.
.
Atheism is an alternative to religion, not a religion.

I fail to see how this is not "observable" and open to "examination" ,
.
Religion is a belief that results in the suspension of critical thinking and the denial of more plausible possibilities supported by data, the result of observation and examination.
