A comment on Talk: Malcolm Gladwell: The strange tale of the Norden bombsight
He may not have all his facts right and for those who don't get the point, it seems to me it's this:
We are all too often so enamored by technology and it's (theoretical) potential that we forget to look at the bigger picture and wonder whether in fact it's necessary, relevant or beneficial in any genuinely practical way. And experience shows the answer is frequently 'No'!
An amazing number of excellent and highly effective inventions are extremely simple and offer great advantage and benefit, often because of their simplicity (and therefore low cost). Of course we need technology in the modern world, but progress not always advancement.
Intelligent, entertaining and inspiring :-)
