Ruth Chang: How to make hard choices
I agree with the point, but when making "hard choices" I much prefer Paul Graham's phrase "make something people want". ... He makes this point over and over in his essays. ... We all want to be appreciated and providing something that someone else wants helps fill the need to be appreciated. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=%22make+something+people+want%22+site:www.paulgraham.com

Mitch Resnick: Let's teach kids to code
50x easier: A few years back I was doing a Post doc, I learned something, I learned that programming has become simpler to do. Twice the current method of programming has become simpler. So much simpler that it wiped out the old method of creating software. These new simpler ways of programming now dominate. While people have tried to do this a third time and create a simpler way of creating software, the closest we have got is SQL. Then one day I was messing about and hit upon an answer, a way of making programming 50x easier to learn. Figured it was worth putting some time into, but is proving a lot harder than I expected. ... I have a working prototype eddyparkinson after the @ add cellmaster.com.au (50x easier to learn than a 3GL, it is easy to prove this).
