Nov 8 2012: Ms Mulheir, what improvements did you make to the orphanages as you visited them?
  • A comment on Conversation: Debate: Is corruption a moral or a legal issue?

Nov 8 2012: I think corruption is when a person has been given the authority to carry out functions for the public good, but uses that power to enrich themselves, often consequating in public harm. Perhaps a moral and legal issue.

A comment on Talk: Georgette Mulheir: The tragedy of orphanages

Nov 8 2012: I like this talk. I add that some persons have said in the past that some children were forced into orphanges because the child needed a doctor, and treatment was refused unless the children were residents of the orphange. After recieving the treatment, the parents were refused the return of the children, and lost them forever. I do know of one modern incidence of this, where the children were paraded before and after the treatment, netting much in donations. I shamed them into allowing the mother to see her healed children. But to my knowledge, one visit is all she has had.I do not believe that the general problem is due to resources. I believe it is because resources are not decently applied, and that children today in volume are being trafficked, sold and exploited..In Australia, our govt is negligent towards children. Impoverished parents cannot defend themselves when the devil comes to steal their children on false allegations made up by exploiters. Our current legal system is a fake when it comes to law for children. Instead our govt focusses on improving their fancy language praising themselves for their hard work, despite an enormous amount of evidence of embezzlement and worse.
In Australia today we are in an era of complex family violence, complex child exploitation and complex child maldevelopment.Usually, the complexity is due to the issues spanning several govt depts, or several court jurisdictions. Links work against each other. Having spent decades denouncing the obvious such as beatings and neglect, the modern style is more diffcult to spot, more difficult to address, and often fails because low-level personell are given the right to make the decisions, often without proper checks, without proper trainng, and because govt funding is lucrative and also unchecked as to its validity.I should add that I am against adoption. I do not believe it is necessary to adopt in order to feed, clothe and educate a child.

Oct 29 2012: Diagnostic and statistic manual of mental disorders-DSM. Supposedly a psychiatric bible.
However I agree that things such as grief are perfectly normal and I think that to fail to have that is abnormal. It is normal to have moods-good times and sad times.

Oct 29 2012: Medical miistakes have always occurred. I am not a fan of psychologists, whom I believe are over-rated.
I do personally know someone whom labelled herself eccentric for years, sayng she was an unusual person and merely eccentric. She suffered from delusions due to acquired brain injury following a car accident and became known for child abductions.
Incorrect diagnosis is dangerous to people, and failure to dagnosis can be very dangerous also. Unrealistic expectations of a persons abilty can cause them to fall victim to injury, crime and more.

Oct 29 2012: Some bacteria or viruses affect the brains functioning,I feel, which can alter our mood, or create weakness such as delerium which alters the ability to think. Some experiences can cause mental illness such as post traumatic stress disorder, which has can create overwhelming unsought memories of reliving the impacting event. So I would say yes to both of your questions. Some years ago I attended a garden party where two infants between ages 6-12 months were present. They were approx one month different in ages. One was bubbly and bouncy, full of movement and smiles. The older infant was still, silent and not smiling. The mother of the silent child had, unfortunately, suffered a full-term still birth very shortly before becoming pregnant with her living silent infant.I felt mum had severe depression and as dad was often working long hours, mum was the child's role model. The infant was well enough sized, but appeared to share mums depression, Fast forward a couple of years and the whole family appeared back to normal. A different primary aged child had a brain injured delusional prone and violent, but undiagnosed elderly relative living temporarily with them. The child started to develop anxiety and altered speech states. These types of children caught from one person to another. Counter-balance such as reducing time spent with the affected adult and spending time in more cheerful or normal enviroments made a difference to them.

  • A comment on Talk: Lemn Sissay: A child of the state

Oct 28 2012: The thread asking why do we allow the state to educate our kids is humourous. Since when do we have a choice about where our children are educated? As for the whole story, wondering why state wards keep their past a secret ? Don't know. But I can say that in Australia in the past, that once u became a ward, you are a playtoy forever. Cops can rape u and u cannot complain. False criminal charges and prevention of school education soon stop those children from becoming professionals that someone may listen to, unless u sponsored and join the network as a social worker. In Australia today, we are in the grip of child trafficking. Good money for those involved.I did appreciate your story.
  • A comment on Talk: Heather Brooke: My battle to expose government corruption

Oct 20 2012: Interesting. But, a person can have their internet access prevented. I have seen this. How then could they access a data bank in another country when they cannot use their own? keep moving from cafe to cafe perhaps and keep changing personas?
